Servant or Slave

I woke the other day with this phrase on my mind (SERVANT OR SLAVE) and instantly had a question. No it wasn't... "why this thought and where did it come from?"... as I stopped needing to know the answer to those kinds of questions awhile ago. My question was: "hmmmm… servant/slave are these the same thing"?

I pondered a bit and realized that to me being a slave to something vs. being a servant to something are two very different ideas. So I did a quick poke around the topic on "The Google" (aka the web), as I do when I'm looking to broaden my knowledge base or catch a thread of something to focus my seeking. Turns out this is a heavily discussed biblical concept.

I quickly resonated with these contrasts I found:

SERVANT = WILLING... FREEDOM... JOY... DEVELOPMENT... LOVE

VS.

SLAVE = INVOLUNTARY... ANGER... RESENTMENT... BONDAGE... PRISONER

If it were true that your walk in this life was one or the other -- I'm not saying it is, but play what if with me here -- If that were true, which do you choose?

And what would it look like to choose? And what would it feel like to choose?

I love these questions. And I love pondering the answers for myself. Hope you enjoy the ponder too.

Suzanne
